The judgment
Heaven withdraws above and earth sinks below — the two forces move apart and communication breaks down. This is a time of stagnation, where worthy efforts are blocked and small-minded forces advance. The wise person withdraws and cultivates their inner resources rather than fighting the current.
The image. Heaven retreats above the earth — separation, each moving in its own direction.
Guidance
Avoid overextension; pull back and keep to what is essential and true. The blockage is real but temporary — preserve your integrity for when the moment opens again.
How it’s built
Every hexagram is two trigrams — the lower one beneath the upper. This one is Kūn below Qián.
