Opposition
Kui
The judgment
Two forces moving in fundamentally opposite directions — the fire reaching up while the lake opens downward. There is deep misunderstanding or genuine divergence of direction. In small things, opposition can still produce something useful; in large things, a direct clash should be avoided.
The image. Fire above the lake — each element moving naturally away from the other.
Guidance
Work with the differences rather than insisting on unity that isn't there. Find where divergent energies might briefly converge — small progress is possible; don't force a grand resolution.
How it’s built
Every hexagram is two trigrams — the lower one beneath the upper. This one is Duì below Lí.
