They say, when you are not there, that you carry the forge in your lungs and that your laugh sounds like cooling iron. You have not laughed in fifty years, not since the forge-fever took your hands. You still work the bellows with your wrists. The other elves think you are a ghost of the old smithy. You let them think that. It is easier than explaining that the fire still speaks to you, and that it asks for names.
