Valandil Oakspear
the Wildshadow Elf
Named for the grey-silver leaves that fall from the oak when the moon is hidden — Valan for the shadow's friend, dil for the silver glint deep in the wood.
You can step into any shadow that holds a trace of moonlight, leaving a silver afterimage that misdirects pursuers. But the longer you stay hidden, the more the shadow pulls at you; you must return to the sun or risk being lost in its memory.

You were whittling an oak branch into a false spear for a child's game when the shadow of the leaf you had just trimmed lengthened and darkened into a crack in the world. The child laughed, but you knew the silver gleam that lined the crack was no trick of the light—it was a door, and it had been waiting for you.
