Ligeia Duskfen
the Pyre-Keeper Countess
Named for the black fen that burns without flame, a peat-fire that has smoldered since before the first village was built upon it.
You can draw a single coal from any cold hearth and coax it to speak in smoke: it will show you the last face that warmed itself there, and the first lie that was told beside it. But the coal burns your palm as it tells you, and you cannot hold another until the scar heals.

- The Ashen-Host
You are stacking logs in a hearth that has no chimney, arranging them in a pattern you learned from a woman whose name you have forgotten. The wood is wet and you do not intend to light it. You only want to remember the shape of her hands as she showed you, once, how to build a pyre that would burn a god.
