Othala
Othala is the rune of inherited property, ancestral land, and the deep belonging that comes from knowing your roots. It names the force of lineage and the tangible and intangible legacies passed down through blood and tradition.
The name & the rune poem
Its name literally means 'ancestral estate' in Old English, and the Anglo-Saxon Rune Poem says 'an estate is very dear to every man, if he can enjoy there in his house whatever is right and proper in constant prosperity.' In Norse tradition it is associated with the odal right, the inalienable family land that binds a kin-group together across generations.
