Shadow-Tempering: you can harden a blade by drawing it through your own shadow, but each tempering costs a memory you will not get back.

You will not draw the blade unless the sun has fully set. This has cost you two duels and the respect of your own brothers, but an oath is an oath. You keep the fingers of the first man you killed in the dark, strung on a cord around your pommel, and you touch them before every unsheathing.
