Glaucus Mistreef
the Fogpearl Merman
Named for the glaucous green of ancient sea-glass worn smooth by fog, and the single clouded pearl found inside a dead conch.
Pearlshade — you can pull the shadows from a place into a single, tight orb the size of a pearl, and when you release it, everything in the room forgets why it was afraid. But each pearl you make weighs a little more, and your pockets are getting heavy.

- the Greyfall Current
You first noticed the pearl in your pocket on a Tuesday afternoon, after a fog so thick the cormorants got lost. You had been sorting the day's catch — mostly wrasse and a single squid — when your hand closed around something cold that had not been there before. It was smooth and faintly luminescent, and when you held it up to the grey light, you saw your own face in it, but younger, and smiling. You have not smiled since, and the pearl has gotten no bigger.
