Gwylan Brightsound
the Foamcipher Merman
Named for the trick of light that turns sea-foam into shadow-script, and the half-heard whistle that answers the tide's turning.
Power
You can read the secret language written in the foam's edge as it recedes — every bubble a word the tide forgot — but to keep the meaning, you must speak it aloud, and the shadows listen.
- Familiar
- A fiddler crab named Scribble, who walks sideways and taps out riddles with his one large claw.
- Tide
- the Fiddler's Ebb
‘You whistle like you’re calling the moon out of the sky,’ your mother said, and she was not wrong. But what you were really calling was the shadow beneath the moon’s reflection — a thing that answered only in the gap between waves. You were seven, and you did not yet know that some tides are better left un-whistled.
